Over forty years ago, Thornton’s Recycling was established in Adelaide. As a collection depot, we aimed to provide Adelaide residents and businesses with an easy and effective recycling service to reduce landfills. We started as a bottle and can recycling depot. Over time, we have expanded our services. Today, we accept significant amounts of recyclable materials. You can bring us your bottles, cans, all types of beverage containers and cartons, plastic and cardboard.

Unfortunately, we do not accept some types of waste. For example, our recycling depot cannot take large amounts of newspaper. We do not also accept organic waste or kitchen scraps and food waste. Industrial and electronic waste will not also be accepted at our Adelaide recycling depot.

Any hazardous or medical waste that is potentially harmful to the environment should not be disposed of just like regular waste. Professionals who know how to dispose of it safely should handle it. It includes bulbs and fluorescent tubes, drain cleaners, weed-killers and fertilisers.

Just because some items cannot be recycled, that does not mean they should just get disposed in landfills. Some items, such as old clothing or appliances, can be donated to various charities. Hazardous items, such as batteries or motor oil, can be more dangerous to the environment than plastic or rubber. Certified professionals who can safely dispose of toxins should handle them separately.

To make your trip to our recycling depot quicker and more convenient, you can prepare your recyclable items in advance. Take off the caps of your plastic bottles. Make sure all drink containers are clean and do not contain any fluids. Try to group similar items together and pack them in bags that are not too heavy.
